The purpose of the conference is to review sorority business and elect new officers . AKA is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American College Women at Howard University in Washington DC on January 15, 1908, ironically 21 years later this date became the birthdate of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Their First National President, Nellie Quander, believed in order to continue to grow as a body it would take faithful and dedicated members keeping their vows to the organization. On January 29, 1913 AKA SORORITY BECAME INCORPORTATED, ironically several decades later this date would be the birthdate of media mogul Oprah Winfrey. It was decided that the mission of AKA would be educational and philanthropic.
