Anoka-Hennepin residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on three questions impacting the school district . Vote early beginning Sept . 17 , or vote in person on election day , Nov . 2 .
Many school districts in the state of Minnesota rely on locally approved operating levies to help fund their schools . Anoka-Hennepin Schools is the largest school district in the state of Minnesota , but its per student operating levy is one of the lowest compared to the top 10 other metro school suburban districts in the state .
Official ballot language can be confusing ; view this helpful descriptor to better understand what it means for all schools and every student .
Question 1 asks voters whether or not they want to renew the operating levy that was approved by Anoka- Hennepin voters in 2011 .
This represents 9.3 % of the district ’ s general fund , which is used to support classroom learning and school operations . This is the amount the district currently receives for each student . The funding will continue if the levy is renewed .
Renewal of the expiring property tax levy would be used to maintain instruction / instructional support , school building operations , transportation / pupil support , district support , and school and district administration .
SCHOOL DISTRICT QUESTION 1 Renewal of School District Expiring Referendum Revenue Authorization
The board of Independent School District No . 11 ( Anoka-Hennepin Public Schools ), Minnesota has proposed to renew the existing property tax referendum authorization of $ 828.22 per pupil , subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation , that is scheduled to expire after taxes payable in 2022 . The proposed referendum revenue authorization would be first levied in 2022 for taxes payable in 2023 and applicable for ten ( 10 ) years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law .
Shall the renewal of the expiring property tax referendum authorization proposed by the board of Independent School District No . 11 ( Anoka- Hennepin Public Schools ), Minnesota be approved ?

BY VOTING “ YES ” ON THIS BALLOT QUESTION , YOU ARE VOTING TO EXTEND AN EXISTING PROPERTY TAX REFERENDUM THAT IS SCHEDULED TO EXPIRE .
This means the levy dollars that were approved in 2011 .
This means that after 2022 the School Board will no longer have the authority to levy the amount approved by voters in 2011 .
The School Board or the State Legislature may choose to discontinue or reduce a levy before it expires .
If approved by voters , this levy would be renewed . Voters would see no tax impact ; current taxes would be extended .
