Melisa says, "We love the people on the Tablelands, but also
love how there is so much to see and do here. Living in an
environment that is so beautiful and abundant is pretty
special."
At the mention of the Yungaburra community, Melisa can't
speak highly enough of them. "From day one they welcomed
us and have always been supportive". They enjoy getting to
know their customers on a personal level—locals and visitors
alike—making a diverse mix of clientele.

T
ablelanders are spoilt for choice when
it comes to cafes and coffee shops with
plenty on offer. One such treat is the Quincan
Cottage Cafe and Gallery in Yungaburra. The Williams family
has owned and run the cafe for over 14 years. Originally from
Ingham, the family were looking for a cooler climate and
a small friendly community, so they chose Yungaburra as
their tree change location—and they haven't looked back.
6 What’s On & Where To Go October 2018
After so many years in business, the Williams family cafe
runs like clockwork. Melisa is the cook and well-supported
by her off-sider Ann who they can't do without. She's been
with them since they opened and word has it that she's not
allowed to leave! They are also fortunate to have two junior
staff, Charlotte and Kasey, who are also best friends—their
personalities bring joy to the cafe. Joseph is the chief barista
who fits in where ever the ladies say, but is allowed to
indulge in his great love of fishing as compensation.
Quincan Cottage Cafe prides itself on making everything
in-house using local produce. On busy market or festival
days their day can start at 5am particularly to ensure there
are plenty of homemade pies – their signature dish! The
pies have a wonderful mound that replicates nearby Mt
Quincan after which the cafe is named. They know they must
be doing something right when they constantly receive
positive feedback about the pies, particularly from travellers
who say they're the best they've ever eaten! They also bake
their own cakes, sweets, slices and quiches. There's a world
of yumminess here including gluten-free and vegetarian
options. Call in at 34 Gillies Highway, Yungaburra six days a
week between 8.30am and 4pm. Closed Wednesdays.
