is the commencement of a great short walk up to Mt Edith—one
of the Wet Tropics' best viewpoints and a relatively easy 15 minute
walk. Take care as there are no guardrails in the wilderness!

T
he Malanda Small Farms Field Day is on again. Held every
second year, the Field Day is about everything country –
tractors, motorcycles, irrigation, farm equipment, animals and
much more! As more consumers develop a craving for local
fresh food, a batch of new small farms is finding innovative
ways to meet the demand. This rural renaissance is producing
more varieties of vegetables, raising goats, sheep and buffalo
to produce new types of cheese, or finding creative methods of
getting it to market, and this is what Malanda Small Farms Field
Day successfully showcases.
This year’s Small Farms Field Day will be held on Saturday 10
November at the Malanda Showgrounds. There are a variety of
competitions that attract attention at each Field Day including
cheese, preserves and bread making and—new in 2018—yoghurt
making. A children’s competition will also be introduced involving
fruit and vegetable creations.
