Indigenous Biocultural Knowledge - Gerry Turpin
Indigenous biocultural lore encompasses people, language and
culture, and their relationship to the environment. This untapped
resource can provide solutions for issues such as climate change,
food security, biodiversity and health.
Ethnobotanist Gerry Turpin is the co-ordinator of the Tropical
Indigenous Ethnobotany Centre, housed in the Australian Tropical
Herbarium at James Cook University, Cairns. In his talk at Back
to the Bone, he will demonstrate how traditional knowledge can
inform and enhance scientific research.
