Exhibit on display until the end of July. By Louise Moller An exciting exhibition is opening in June at the Tableland Regional Gallery A Taste of Timber and Textile Travels by local artists, Wesley Moller and Sandra Burchill. A Taste of Timber features turned timber forms and sculptures celebrating the natural environment of the Atherton Tableland and the rich colour and gra in pattern of Australian timbers. The exhibition features small and large timber artworks turned by local timber artisan, Wesley Moller. “I love sourcing and collecting a wide variety of timber from paddocks and timber mills all over the north. I enjoy working with timbers such as Queensland Maple, Flame She-Oak, Australian Red Cedar and a variety of Australian Burls. Each piece of timber has its own unique personality, which speaks to you as an artist and guides your creativity in highlighting the colour and grain pattern,” said Wesley. Malanda Show 7, 8, 9 July www.malandashow.com.au The premier agricultural event on the Atherton Tablelands. Includes equestrian, celebrity hand-milking competition, fireworks and laser show, street parade, motorcycle show, car show and competition, sideshow alley, woodchops and more! The natural beauty of the Atherton Tableland inspires Wesley. He has incorporated dyes and inks into several of his timber pieces to highlight the rainforest, lakes, sunsets and geographic features of the region. A wood turner for more than twenty years, Wesley works from his wood turning studio on his Peeramon property. Textile Travels incorporates the rich landscapes of roads travelled by Sandra in her quilted textile artworks. Sandra loves travel and fabric and combines her two passions in this textile exhibition. Inspired by the weatherman saying “fine and sunny elsewhere”, Sandra set out to find the elusive “elsewhere” in her travels and mirror that theme through her textile artworks in this exhibition. “It is like painting with fabric, using pieced patches in a semi-abstract representation of the land and quite often the landscapes will suggest a certain fabric and texture,” Sandra said. After dabbling in painting and macramé in her earlier life, Sandra turned to fabric and the art of quilting and has never looked back. Sandra chooses to work with a range of textures and colour palettes in fabrics, laces, threads and shells in her rich Textile Travel landscapes.
