What's On Tablelands August Issue 2017 | Page 4

The Arts Council Tablelands brings you this fantastic performance on Saturday 5 August. Anthony Albrecht, a Newcastle born baroque cellist, is back for the summer from London and New York City as a recent graduate of The Juilliard School's Historical Performance program. Anthony performs on his ongoing 'Bach to the Bush' tour of QLD. In this 80 minute concert a selection of J.S. Bach's stunning suites for solo cello is interspersed with other short early works for the instrument and discussion of the historical and cultural context of this timeless music. Held at Atherton Performing Arts at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online at www.trybooking.com/QOHL or at Chameleon's Treasure, 30 Main Street, Atherton. Don't miss out on this fantastic performance! Hot Mikado A musical by MTC This colourful show is based on Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado, but is a very different musical indeed! Directed by Gill Harrington, with a huge team of production assistants, Hot Mikado is sure to have the 'wow' factor audiences have come to expect from MTC. There is a large cast of familiar and new faces playing in this show, supported by the Ladies & Gentlemen of Japan, the Tea House ladies and of course there is an entire band! Niilo Gobius is The Mikado, with Lily Moore and Simon Heaney playing the romantic leads. Natalie Foster, Kirsten Adams, Marg Procter and Amanda Albon star alongside Howard Smith, Damien Cavanagh, Mark Baker, Tom O'Connor and Indio Myles in the other main roles. Rehearsals are going extremely well, with the cast meeting three times each week to perfect their lines, singing and dancing. Costumes are receiving the finishing touches while the set is also nearing completion. Sound, lighting, effects and videography matters are being finalised, with dress and tech rehearsals not far off. So much work goes into producing each MTC show, which is evident as soon as you step through the doors of the Majestic! Opening Night is Friday 18 August. The remaining shows are 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27 August. Sunday shows are matinees. Tickets available at Tableland Books, ECHO and Elders in Malanda and online at malandatheatre.org. Tickets are $25 for opening night and groups of 10+ and $30 for all other shows. This really is a fantastic musical, book early! Tablelands Gig Guide Are you a musician holding a gig?
