UHS Girls Soccer Celebrate Memorable Season
Members of Union High School’s Girls Soccer Team received recognition by the Union County Girls Soccer Coaches Association for their performances this season. The All Star Banquet celebration, held at the Westwood in Garwood, recognized the best players from across Union County.
Caitlyn Finnerty (goalkeeper), Gabby Lamadieu (defender) and Kayla Miller-Peoples (forward) were awarded positions on the 2017 All-Stars Watchung First Team.
Kelly Severini (midfield) and Kayla Veloso-Lima (forward) were awarded positions on the 2017 All-Stars Watchung Second Team.
Andrea Santiago and Nicole Alfano received an honorable mention for their contributions as midfield players. In addition, Gabby Lamadieu, Kayla Miller-Peoples and Kayla Veloso-Lima received All Conference Awards and will be attending the NJGSCA State Banquet in January.
Coach Cassiano Dos Santos was recognized as Coach of the Year by his peers.
“Despite losing some key players due to injury, we had a great season,” said DosSantos. “Our team played well battling against top teams in the state. The girls made tremendous progress these last two seasons, and as the trend continues, we will continue to surprise the best teams in the state.”
“Thank you for honoring Union Girls Soccer, this is an added motivation and will push us even further next year,” continued DosSantos.
Overall, the Union Girls’ Soccer Team had a successful season with a 14-6 record. Its only losses were to Top-20 ranked opponents. The Farmers ranked third in Union County, and finished in 19th place in the state.
