What's going on Downtown North Bay Vol.1 October 2013 | Page 8
For the past three years the
Downtown Improvement
Association organizes
a banner festival to help
beautify the downtown
during the summer
months. The D.I.A. looks
upon citizens of North Bay
to partake in this event,
giving citizens a chance to
support their city creatively.
For the past three years,
citizens of all ages have
come down to volunteer
their creative skills to paint
a themed banner that is put
up along the city core.
Banner
Festival
On average the event gets
its theme in January and the
forms go out to the public for
submissions. The citizens are
encouraged to draw out or
render a draft of their banner
and submit it to the D.I.A. for
approval. Once the application
is approved the citizens are
informed of where and when
to begin their paintings, and
where to pick up their paint
and banner; if painting in the
convenience of their own
home. On average the artists
are given four months to
complete their banners before
they are mounted in our core.
In October/November they are
then taken down and auctioned
off to support the event and
finalize the event.
I
t doesn't matter if you're a skilled painter or not, citizens are encouraged to come out and have fun. We are all firm believers in
this community event and would love to see more participants
and support from the community. If this event is to continue, we
need to see more support from the community. We encourage
anyone who has not heard of this event and is interested in
seeing this event take place again next year to contact us or the
Downtown Improvement Association.
