ASSAULT ON THE SENSES

One thing ’ s for sure : the UAS is not for couch potatoes . Fitness and training are a major part of our culture , and if you ’ re going to be part of the team you ’ ll have to keep up .
With a huge choice of sports and training courses available , you ’ ll have no problem finding something that interests you . Most Squadrons offer football , rugby , hockey , cricket and netball , and many offer much more . Regular inter-UAS tournaments give you the chance to show off your skills and meet other Squadrons from all over the country .
But that ’ s not all . You ’ ll have the opportunity to do leadership and survival exercises out in the field too , pitting your wits against the environment and the opposing team . Finally , for those who fancy it , there ’ s the chance to try out weapons training . You ’ ll be taught how to handle and fire a pistol and could even take part in one of our national shooting competitions . It ’ s exhilarating stuff !
‘ Out of all the societies I could have joined , the UAS was by far the best option , simply because of the number of things it offers . Pretty much everything that you ’ d pay to do at uni you can get paid to do with the UAS .’
Andrew Glykys , RAFVR , London UAS
DID YOU KNOW ? Generous financial investment means you ’ ll have sports facilities , training and equipment on tap . If your HQ or airfield is on an RAF base , you ’ ll have free access to the gym and usually regular fitness classes .

‘ We ’ re here to put the Cadets ’ skills to the test ,’ explains Officer Commanding Simon Means . ‘ They ’ ll undertake a series of leadership challenges that must be solved as a team . By the end of this weekend they ’ ll feel ready to face just about anything .’
THE GLASTO RACE
