Imagine standing on a cliff top that ’ s the height of a threestorey building and being told to step off … backwards . With just two weeks to go before their week-long expedition to the Dolomite mountains in Italy , members of the team from Glasgow UAS are about to test their mettle .
Focused and ready for action , they ’ re here to abseil down the jagged cliffs of Cummingston beach in north-east Scotland – and it ’ s a long way down . Sergeant Sam Gleave is the man in charge . ‘ Adventurous training is fun , but it ’ s also a great way to test their skills ,’ he explains . ‘ It forces them to work together as a team to overcome obstacles or even do things that frighten them .’
