What The Thunder Said, Vol 4 | Page 30

Five Poems on the Italian Peninsula

by George Nakada

I - Toscana

Golden Tuscan fields

Offer the sun their bounty

Of grapes and olives.

II - Popmeii

Beneath the grey ash

Lays a mother and her child,

Awaiting the sun.

III - Venezia

The salty canals

Glow under the pale sunrise.

The gondolier sings.

IV - Roma

An empire of hills,

Conquered by bronze and marbel,

Sings of ages past.

V - Firenze

A Golden City,

Carved with ivory marbel,

Gives feast to the eye.
