I Could Never Find the Right Shade of Red

In all my years as an artist, I have never finished a painting. Not one.

No matter how well I had been doing, there was always something missing. It irritated me. The colors could never be brought together correctly because of that one shade. I could never find the right shade of red.

I’ve searched for years. Even when I thought I had finally gotten the right shade, it turned out to always be brighter than the shade I wanted. Nothing I tried would ever work. Everything I drew would be ruined once I placed the red paint onto the canvas. Thebrightness of the red threw me off, and I always lost interest.

It may seem silly, I realize that, but it’s not something I can change. I’ve been toldso many things to try to get me out of this funk.

“That’s amazing! What’s wrong with it?”

“Dude, it’s fine. You really shouldn’t try so hard.”

“Get over yourself. You’re so picky!”

No matter how nice or nasty the comment was, nothing changed my mind. The red haunted
