Overthinking

I read what you wrote.

I guessed what you meant.

I break apart what you wrote word by word.

A simple question goes unanswered.

A belief that there is a deeper meaning.

A thought of what they’re thinking.

They know you read it.

They don’t know why you haven’t answered.

They might be mad.

You stress over your response.

You vomit out words over and over.

Yet no combination sounds right.

You erase faster than you can type.

You respond yes.

Your response lingers in your mind.

You wish you said more.

You hate yourself for your response.

You turn your phone off.
