What was once contempt and scorn, was now replaced with love and fondness. I’m proud of my yellow skin that may or may not look like I have jaundice. I’m proud of the eyes passed down by my great-grandfather, who surprisingly was a quarter Chinese. I no longer look at myself, or my culture, and wish I were white. Afterall, it was the great Dr. Seuss that said:
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
So I did.
