What The Thunder Said, Vol 4 | Page 40

Dear Students,

I'm sorry that you don't feel safe anymore--

I'm sorry that you aren't safe anymore.

That walking into school has turned

Into a war-- and you don't know which side

Our government is fighting for.

I'm sorry

That when another school shooting happens

Our president will tweet out thoughts and prayers

Which will be overshared.

Far more than your memorial

I'm sorry that when you are gunned down in school

Fox News won’t report your name

They will instead endorse the NRA

Or the KKK

Because when Trayvon died

They gave him 15 minutes of fame

And your death will be the same

Because they care more about their guns

To take any blame

I'm sorry, that if you survive a school shooting

And turn your pain and grieving

Into something worth meaning

Media will make a display

Saying there is not enough time for grieving

But the time for grieving was 20 years ago
