“Words are, in my not-so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic” - JK Rowling
JK Rowling reminds us of why literature and writing are important to each of us. Writing is the most deliberate form of communication, and each word possesses its own power. The magic of writing binds meaningless letters together to form thought provoking ideas. The ideas we speak today hold a timelessness that allows historians to explore our previous perspectives. Also, in this time of crises, we turn to words to escape the endless boredom of quarantine. Not only do we wander from journals to novels for enjoyment, but we create our own poetry and art to immortalize our thoughts. Many famous authors, such as C.S. Lewis and Emily Bronte, who wrote notable tales such as The Chronicles of Narnia and Wuthering Heights, used isolation to help them create, and with that, we hope this time of solitude will also produce some of the most magical words of our time.
In this magazine we get a glimpse of life before this devastating Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. Before the school closures and social distancing took place, students shared their feelings tied to relationships, acceptance, nature, and faith. Let the pieces in this edition of What the Thunder Said serve as a reminder of what was at the forefront of our minds when life was simple.
We would like to thank all of our contributors and hope you enjoy this volume of What the Thunder Said.
