She Has Become My Valkyrie

by Kyle Fedasiuk

The lingering aroma of sage dominates the midnight air.

I find comfort in the plum-plush pillows,

The remembrance of a night long-since past.

Let me find peace here.

Let me feel the presence of a friendly-faced spirit.

Let me feel it deep within my bones.

There’s a chill in the air and it’s not from the ceiling fan.

Goosebumps spread across my skin as I feel her presence.

She smiles at me as I enter this humble home.

And although I may not be able to see her, I can whole-heartedly feel her.

I am fulfilled with a sense of forgiveness

And departure from an unforgettable past.

A movement onto a previously unobtainable future.

---

She answers my plea, she is part of me.

She has become my Valkyrie.
