UNEMPLOYMENT IN CONTINENTAL GREECE
The unemployment rate in 2017
decreased to 20.9% (Eurostat, 2018), as
compared to 25% in 2016, and a figure
significantly lower compared to the 2013
level (28.2%). This positions the region
in seventh place for the highest
unemployment rate among the 13 Greek
regions, below the national average
(21.5%) and above the EU28 (7.6%)
average.
In the Regional Unit of Viotia unemployment is
highest among unskilled building workers,
unskilled workers in construction and industry
and office workers, followed by personal service
workers
(hairdressers,
cooks,
waiters,
housekeepers, etc.), sales staff for shops or
outdoor locations, salespersons, domestic workers
and cleaners, caretakers, porters and guards.
Smaller numbers are available among sales
specialists and business service providers
(secretaries, accounting assistants, and personnel
for financial services, sales and related
professions), musicians, drivers and mobile plant
operators.
