DiCaprio and co acquire rights to SA novel by STAFF WRITER source SCREENAFRICA

ACTOR and producer Leonardo DiCaprio has aqcuired the rights to convert South African writer Lauren Beukes’ latest novel, The Shining Girls, into a TV series.
The Hollywood Reporter, an American entertainment magazine, has stated that DiCaprio’ s production company, Appian Way Productions as well as Media Rights Capital( MRC), an independent movie and television studio, have bought the television rights to the novel.
The book is a fantasy and science fiction novel about a serial killer from Chicago that time travels to different decades to find and kill women who have the potential to‘ shine’.
Beukes has confirmed on Twitter that Appian Way Productions and MRC have bought the rights. She tweeted:“ I am excited. John Ridley of Appian Way was passionate about the book from the beginning.”
The author received the 2011 Arthur C. Clarke Award for Science Fiction, the most coveted prize in this genre in the world, for her previous novel, Zoo City.
