Water Polo
Report
Water polo has continued to grow from strength to strength, with the 2016 training having started last year. Our girls were ready to tackle the new season. Our U11s and U13s played great matches and have shown much improvement. The Reddam Action Tournament started off the season on the right foot, allowing our girls some valuable game time and priceless experience to set the tone for the rest of the year. Our U13A water polo tour to Knysna for the Oakhill Chukka Festival in Term 1 was a fantastic opportunity for our girls. They returned having learnt some great new skills and played some fantastic polo. Jordan Laguma was voted“ Best Goalie” and Courtney Joshua was voted WGJS’ s“ Most Valuable Player”.
In Term 2 we headed off to Grahamstown for the All Girls’ Festival, where we played phenomenal polo and were unbeaten and definitely put our name out there as“ the team to beat”.
This year, Wynberg also featured in the Western Province Schools League semi-finals for the first time ever, narrowly losing to Sun Valley and finishing fourth overall!
Our girls have shown enthusiasm and a positive approach to the game, both in and out of the pool. Continuing with WP squad training throughout the year, our girls have shown overwhelming love and passion for the game. Congratulations to Courtney Joshua and Jordan Laguma on their selection for the WP U13A water polo team and Skye Murray and Almaas Bailey for their selection for the WP U13B water polo team. Both teams will take part at the South African Inter-Provincial tournament in Durban in December. Well done ladies, we are very proud of your achievements and we look forward to seasons to come! The guidance, inspiration and motivation of our private coaches, Mr G. Blakey and Mr J. Abrahamse, has lead to an extremely successful season!
