allow others to push me down. But that would mean
I’m giving them the power. Did you know we all have
magical powers within us? And these are the years for
you to discover them. The power of wisdom, respect
for yourself and others, the power of standing up as a
woman and fighting for what you want, and the power to
make the right choices. Ladies, do not give that power
to those who do not believe in you and the beauty of
your dreams. If the Wright brothers had to believe all the
negative comments of those around them, giving their
power away, trust me they would not have gone down
in history as “the first in flight”.
So now that I’ve got you dreaming, you have to find a
way to achieve what it is you want to achieve and you
have to believe it WILL happen. You have got to believe
in yourself, baby girl.
You may come across many challenges. It is through that
belief that will keep you going through the entire journey.
Yes, the journey may not be easy at times, of course you
are going to make mistakes along the way. I’ve made
mistakes too; I’ve come across many challenges. Being
a cadet, being a woman in a man’s world, my age, never
mind actually studying and flying passenger aircraft, but
because flying and travelling the world is my true passion,
the end result was a clear picture throughout the entire
journey, and that was to be an airline pilot. Ladies, you
are never too young to dream. You are never too young
to achieve the things you want to achieve – right here,
right now, start dreaming!
As the past students moved from grade to grade, so will
you move from grade to grade and eventually become
beautiful and successful women one day. I want you to
remember three important Disney characters, for Disney
has taught both young and old important life lessons.
The first one, Rapunzel, for she said you must “venture
outside your comfort zone and the rewards will be worth
it”. Then the second one, the strong, courageous woman,
Mulan, as she said, “Believe you can and you will.” And
how can I forget – you all remember Cinderella? Well,
I believe there should be a Cinderella inside each and
every Wynberg Girl – not for the fancy ball and meeting
the handsome prince across the road on the other side
of the fence. No, no! But rather for something she said
and everyone missed it completely. She said, “Have
courage and be kind.” And I’d like to add to that: “Remain
humble.” As you go on busy dreaming, achieving what
you have to achieve, remember to “HAVE COURAGE,
BE KIND AND REMAIN HUMBLE”. Remember those
words ladies, and you will go very far in life.
The world is waiting for you, may God bless you and
keep you and as they say in the pilot world, “May the
tailwinds and the blue skies always follow you, may you
have happy landings.”
