Project Objectives and Results
Project Objectives
WFP's operations under this PRRO for 2016-2017 were aligned to WFP Strategic Objectives 1, 2 and 4 [1], and
contributed to Sustainable Development Goals 2, 5 [2] and 17 and the Zero Hunger Challenge [3]. The specific
objectives of the PRRO were to:

prepare for and respond to natural and human-induced disasters and other shocks in support of the
Government (Strategic Objective 1);
assist post-disaster recovery by rehabilitating productive assets to improve household food security and create
socio-economic opportunities for the most vulnerable (Strategic Objective 2);
address undernutrition among children and pregnant and lactating women (PLW), and support at-risk groups
such as people living with HIV and tuberculosis (TB) clients (Strategic Objective 4);
improve access to, and enrolment and attendance at, primary schools (Strategic Objective 4); and
improve the sustainability of responses to food insecurity and undernutrition through knowledge-sharing and
capacity development (Strategic Objectives 1, 2 and 4).

restore food security and nutrition and establish or rebuild livelihoods in fragile settings and following emergencies;
and Strategic Objective 4 – Reduce undernutrition and break the intergenerational cycle of hunger.

Project Activities
Strategic Objective: Save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies (SO1)
Outcome: Stabilised food consumption over assistance period for targeted households and/or individuals
Activity: Relief assistance through unconditional life-saving food and/or cash transfers to vulnerable women and
girls, men and boys from vulnerable communities affected by conflict and natural disasters
WFP targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other most conflict-affected populations in Rakhine, Kachin
and Shan states. In areas with access to markets, beneficiaries were assisted through cash-based transfers. In
remote unsafe areas where there were significant protection concerns, food remained the preferred transfer
modality. The value of cash-based transfers was determined based on market prices, taking into consideration price
fluctuations. In the northern part of Rakhine, the most food-insecure and vulnerable populations, including returnees
