Operational Partnerships
The country programme (CP) was implemented in partnership with United Nations (UN) agencies, the Government,
and community-based organizations in consultation with communities and beneficiaries.
The CP was aligned to the 2013-2017 United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), including
pillar 1—equitable economic growth and sustainable livelihoods—for which WFP, the United Nations Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) were the co-lead
agencies. WFP’s operation also supported pillar 3 (governance, human rights, gender equality, social inclusion and
protection) and pillar 4 (environmental sustainability, resilience to climate change and disaster-risk reduction). WFP
was actively engaged in the development of the UNDAF's successor, the United Nations Sustainable Development
Framework (2018-2022).
In 2016, WFP was actively involved in numerous government and stakeholder discussions towards the national
sustainable development agenda, and has made valuable contributions to food security and nutrition policies, plans
and initiatives. In September 2016, WFP commissioned an independent national strategic review of food security
and nutrition towards zero hunger in Sri Lanka in support of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2. The findings
of the report will be presented to the Government of Sri Lanka in February 2017.
