WPA Member Moments
with Beatrice Vasquez
Welcome to WPA Member Moments, a new feature at Western Pallet Magazine. This month, we feature Beatrice Vasquez, Founder and Chief Financial Officer at Oxnard Pallet Company.
GETTING INVOLVED:
Actually, Elias and I learned about NWPCA first from the Pallet Central Magazine and we joined many years ago. When we attended our first event in Florida, a member shared about the WPA and how we should get involved and join the WPA which we did several years ago. It was by this early networking with members that motivated us to join the WPA.
MEMBER JOURNEYS:
The WPA has greatly evolved since we first joined because #1 it has steadily grown and it was very easy to meet and network with other members. Everyone was truly very friendly and welcoming to us, especially at the beginning. However, we are very impressed with all the learning opportunities and steady changes that have allowed all members to gain more value out of this association.
PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT:
My personal highlight was becoming more involved on the Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer, Vice President and President. I really learned a lot and it took me out of my comfort zone. I didn't think I could do it and was so very happy that I agreed to get more involved.
GENERAL INSIGHTS:
I strongly believe what sets the WPA apart from other associations is the fact there are fewer members than the NWPCA for example which gives us an advantage to network more and meet a lot of people. It is less intimidating perhaps. The values within the membership seem to be more personalized and affordable for smaller companies as well as larger companies within the industry.
ADVICE FOR NEW MEMBERS:
My strong advice would be for the members to get more involved either on the board if elected or with the various committees perhaps. They should truly take advantage of the wonderful learning opportunities and make sure they attend the annual meeting! WPM
