manufacturers in a different capacity, which has helped to show what separates Ongweoweh from other companies. We truly value our industry, and the Western Pallet Association has provided an additional platform for us to give back.
4. From your perspective, what are the emerging opportunities or challenges for the pallet industry?
There are always challenges popping up in the pallet industry but the beauty of most companies in our industry is that they are resourceful and able to adapt to change. One key growing opportunity and challenge we are facing is the increasing need for stricter quality standards with recycled pallets. As automation continues to grow in warehouses and distribution centers, so does the need for pallets to meet precise specifications. For recyclers, this creates added complexity. When using recycled material, sorting practices are critical. Tighter pallet specifications require processes to adapt and change to pull out material with more precision.
What advice would you give to new members of the WPA to maximize the benefits of their membership?
My advice would be to get involved. The Western Pallet Association is a great organization for building meaningful relationships within the pallet industry. There are many opportunities to engage, including Master Learning Groups that focus on key topics affecting our industry, as well as the WPA Annual Meeting, which features engaging activities, educational seminars, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities.
In addition, there are several committees looking for members who want to volunteer their time and expertise. Getting involved allows members to connect with peers, stay informed about industry developments, and have a voice in shaping the future of the pallet industry.
