transplant, or using steroids for a respiratory condition.

“Those individuals, even if they're fully vaccinated, may not have had a full response to it,” Abrams explained. “And so under, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, they may be entitled to additional accommodations, such as continuing to work remotely, and other workers who cannot safely wear face coverings or cannot wear them for religious reasons.”

Also, it is important to continue maintaining distancing protocols for unvaccinated or at-risk workers in all communal work areas. “As an employer,” she said, “provide all of your unvaccinated workers or any vaccinated but at risk workers with face coverage or surgical masks, unless the work they're doing that already requires them to wear a respirator.” An example would be a saw operator already wearing a N95 mask to protect against dust.

Effective training is also consideration. Abrams commented on an amputation investigation by OSHA. Upon investigation it was found that the worker could neither read nor write English and could not read safety signage. “When you're relying upon signage for training, or you give somebody a set of written work rules, they have to be able to read if that's what you're giving them in lieu of oral training. So just something to think about that applies here with the COVID training as well.”
