The Manufacturing Institute warns that up to 1.9 million manufacturing jobs could remain unfilled over the next decade unless these talent issues are addressed. Additionally, the need for higher-level skills that integrate technical, digital, and soft competencies is becoming increasingly critical.

Looking ahead to 2025, favorable economic conditions such as lower interest rates and ongoing investments in U.S. manufacturing may boost demand, potentially exacerbating labor shortages. To combat rising wages and

high turnover costs, manufacturers are focusing on enhancing the worker experience. According to a 2024 survey by the UKG Workforce Institute, a significant number of companies recognize the high costs associated with replacing skilled workers and are therefore prioritizing strategies to retain and upskill their workforce.
