JANUARY 2022

Glenn Miller, chief of staff to California state Senator Melissa Melendez, offered support to our industry, emphasizing the ongoing supply chain issues in California. Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren has been supportive of keeping pallet businesses within Fontana city limits. San Bernardino Mayor John Valdivia offered his support by noting that their international airport is experiencing increased traffic and there remain large parcels of undeveloped land for sale that he believes would be a good fit for pallet companies.

Supply chain issues along the West Coast have put pallets under the spotlight. The industry has access to resources that weren't previously available, which will help the group accomplish more goals in a shorter time frame.

Montey said that the group will continue growing alliances with elected officials and monitoring state legislators. To find out more about the Western Pallet PAC, contact the WPA office.

WPA Branded Merchandise, Golf Sponsorships and Pallet University

Glenn Meeks spoke on behalf of the Revenue Streams Committee. The group’s role is finding ways to generate revenue to help grow the WPA, so it can offer more to members. Its efforts included expanding season sponsors from 10 to 14, 25 exhibit sponsors, refreshment table sponsorships, and more golf hole sponsorships. Also new, through the efforts of the Revenue Streams Committee, WPA is now offering logo merchandise, which will be available to order online.

The biggest project for 2022, he reported, will be the creation of a WPA Pallet University. It will involve creating an educational online platform. It will be aimed for people both in the pallet industry as well as outside of it.

Net membership numbers continue to grow year on year, with 16 new members since the last Annual Meeting. Tyrone Konnecny noted that the new member recruitment incentives have been upgraded. The person who brings the most new members now receives a $1,000 award. All members who recruit one or more new members go into a draw for a second $1,000 prize.

Watch for Annual Meeting speaker coverage in upcoming issues.
