Stephanie Kiernan, the owner of Harbor Packaging, joined WPA as a new member in December 2023. With a decade of experience in the pallet and packaging industry, Kiernan has embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding the Orange County, California-based company. Its focus is on national pallet programs and eco-friendly packaging solutions.
One thing Kiernan has found over the course of her career is that she “was just kind of good” at national pallet programs. She has enjoyed success onboarding bigger customers and meeting their particular requirements.
Kiernan expressed her enthusiasm about joining the WPA, noting her familiarity with many of its members and her extensive experience working with yards across the country. Her goal with Harbor Packaging is to broaden her reach and network within the industry, emphasizing the importance of building strong relationships with customers and pallet yards.
Kiernan is committed to steering the company towards eco-friendly packaging products, aligning with the growing industry trend towards sustainability. One thing that sets Harbor Packaging apart, aside from its specialized services in recycled and custom pallets, is its status as a woman-owned business.
A unique aspect of Harbor Packaging's business model is its participation in the Dream Makers program. Kiernan shared that 1% of the company's profits are donated to Dream Makers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth who have aged out of foster care. This initiative reflects Kiernan's belief in giving back to the
community, especially to a group often overlooked by society.
Kiernan spoke in positive terms regarding attending her first WPA Annual meeting last month. "I very much enjoyed the first event and can't wait for next year," she said. "It was so great getting to meet so many of my current yards and new yards face to face, as well as others in the industry. I was told the event was more casual than a lot of other trade events, and I couldn't agree more. I felt at home immediately, though I knew no one when I first walked into the room.
