Emissions Grants & Incentive Programs in California
In case you missed it, WPA offered an informative lunch hour webinar on December 15 regarding grants and incentives available to repower or replace internal combustion-powered equipment in California. There are programs that are state-wide, such as the Volkswagen (VW) Mitigation Trust as well as programs offered by California’s 35 individual air quality districts.
A lot of information was shared by the presenters and the eligibility criteria can seem a little complicated, but they urged any interested parties to reach out to the various programs to get a better understanding. Those contact details are presented later in this article. The information presented below is meant to provide a general sketch of the funding opportunities, but there are nuances and additional opportunities that might go beyond those mentioned below.
And while the information in this article pertains only to California, the VW Trust also is making money available in other states in addition to other programs that might be available. If you are interested, again, take the time to explore further and contact the respective bodies in your state.
The Volkswagen (VW) Mitigation Trust
The Volkswagen (VW) Mitigation Trust was established as part of a settlement with Volkswagen for their role in utilizing illegal defeat devices in certain 2.0 and 3.0 liter VW vehicles that resulted in excess emissions. The Trust will provide funding to mitigate these excess emissions through the replacement or repower of older, heavy-duty vehicles, engines, and equipment with zero-emission and other clean technologies.
Within VW, there are two different categories that will be of potential interest to WPA members. These categories are the Combustion Freight and Marine Projects Category (Combustion) as well as the Zero-Emission Class 8 Freight and Port Drayage Trucks.
