The broader economy has also made things more challenging. When business slows, phone sales get harder. That’s where being able to get out and see customers in person becomes even more important.

WPA helps by providing a show that’s accessible. It’s reasonably priced, so even smaller companies can attend and stay involved. That matters, especially during tougher economic periods when some events can price people out.

4. From your perspective, what are the emerging opportunities or challenges for the pallet industry?

Competition continues to intensify. It often comes down to how cheaply you can build a pallet, and how efficiently you can operate while maintaining quality.

Customer loyalty isn’t what it used to be. You’re seeing a shift, especially with newer decision-makers, toward a stronger focus on price. Saving a nickel or a dime can outweigh long-term relationships.

Another challenge is consolidation. More mom-and-pop operations are being acquired, which makes it harder for single-location companies without a strong foothold to compete against larger, more resource-rich players.

At the same time, that environment creates opportunity for companies that can differentiate through service, consistency, and reliability, not just price.

5. What advice would you give to new members of the WPA to maximize the benefits of their membership?

Get involved. Attend the seminars, go to the show, and read the newsletters so you stay informed.

Most importantly, network. This industry has some of the best people you’ll find anywhere. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and start conversations. That’s where the real value comes from.
