GET YOUR HONK ON A PHOTO ESSAY BY LUKE CLARK Unmistakable in color and size, Canada geese are one of the most intelligent waterfowl species to hunt. To lure in flocks close enough for a shoot, it takes a good decoy spread, a well-hidden blind, a good caller and a field loaded with feed. There are 11 different sub-species of Canada geese, all present in the Pacific Flyway throughout the goose hunting seasons. Each sub-specie is different, but there is one common thread throughout: Canada geese are not easy to hunt. When a honker hits the ground, and your dog makes the retrieve, it’s a satisfying, well-earned trophy. 8 WESTERN HUNTING JOURNAL
