Prairie Grove :
“ There is something special here ”
Prairie Grove is a charming community that has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years and continues to thrive and grow . The revitalization of its downtown , while preserving cultural and historical heritage , is driving economic prosperity in this unique hamlet .
The city is currently beginning an $ 8 million infrastructure improvement project on the downtown streets . The project will update the water , sewer and drainage of the downtown area .
“ If our budget allows , we will improve sidewalks , crosswalks , curbed parking and green spaces ,” said Mayor David Faulk .
Prairie Grove is also finishing an $ 8.5 million expansion to the wastewater treatment plant that will provide an estimated 50 % growth in capacity . The city will also upgrade sewer lines within the streets to support commercial growth along the bypass .
Improvements to Muddy Fork Park , such as new bathrooms , new playground equipment and a handicap swing , were added in 2023 . The city is researching next steps to improving the Parks and Recreation Department at Mock Pack , Reiff Park and the tennis courts .
When asked what makes Prairie Grove unique , Mayor Faulk was quick to answer .
“ The first thing that comes to mind is the downtown shops and antique festivals . The Clothesline Fair and Junk Ranch bring in 1,000 visitors to our area yearly , but the love of its people measures Prairie Grove ’ s uniqueness ,” said Faulk . “ Maybe it ’ s Southern hospitality or small-town charm ,
but when the citizens of Prairie Grove attempt to explain it , it seems unexplainable . We say , ‘ There is something special here .’ Something that we did not feel in the area that we moved from .”
Support for local businesses is impressive in this rapidly growing area .
“ We have a lot of available space for residential and commercial growth ,” Faulk pointed out . “ This could allow business owners to grab the king ’ s ransom of the market share as we grow , rather than competing in other over-developed areas .”
Some of the attractions that draw visitors from miles around are Battlefield Park , Clothesline Fair , Junk Ranch , fishing at Bob Kidd Lake and the hiking trails .
Prairie Grove ’ s proximity to the University of Arkansas , Fayetteville , Springdale and Bentonville makes it a great place to live .
“ We are a small town with the amenities of a bigger city ,” noted Faulk . “ We are just miles away from all the excitement of Northwest Arkansas , and yet also just a few minutes away from fishing , camping , hiking and the joys that come with a quiet , slower paced life .”
