Prairie Grove

Battlefield State Park
Prairie Grove is perhaps best known as the home to one of America ’ s most intact Civil War battlefields . The 900-acre park commemorates the site of the Battle of Prairie Grove , where on Dec . 7 , 1862 , Confederate and Union forces clashed in a fierce battle that resulted in 2,700 casualties . This battle marked the last major Civil War engagement in Northwest Arkansas . The park offers guided walking tours , a selfguided driving tour , and a geocache tour , as well as a virtual tour . The Hindman Hall Museum displays artifacts recovered from the battle .
Aquatic Park
Prairie Grove Aquatic Park is the ideal place to beat the heat during the summer months . The park is a favorite family playground for locals , as well as folks from neighboring communities . Besides swooshing down any of the several fun waterslides , you can swim in the large pools or just chill in the shallow waters . There is a kiddie pool , too , for the park ’ s younger visitors .
Antiquing in Prairie Grove
There is no better place to “ junk ” than Prairie Grove . Historic downtown Prairie Grove , Junk at the Mill , Junk Ranch , and several junk fairs throughout the year offer a variety of antiques and crafts .
Clothesline Fair Prairie Grove ’ s Clothesline Fair was started in 1951 and has become one of the top arts and crafts venues in the area . It is held Labor Day weekend each year at Battlefield State Park . The fair features crafts , live music , food and craft vendors , Civil War history , and one of the largest squaredancing competitions in the United States . The Clothesline Fair Parade features tractors , antique vehicles , fire trucks and local businesses . It is sponsored by the Prairie Grove Lions Club and is one of the area ’ s favorite arts and crafts events .

Farmington

Creekside Park Creekside Park is a feature park in the city that offers a walking trail , picnic tables , benches , large playgrounds , basketball courts , tennis and pickle ball courts , crossfit workout area , disc golf course , and a pavilion that can be rented . A recent expansion added a new pavilion and playground , two tennis courts , two basketball courts , upgraded bathroom facilities , new parking lot with over 100 spaces , extended walking trail and sidewalks , and landscaping , as well as several other amenities like barbecue grills and bleachers . Creekside Park is an ideal area to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends .
Fall Festival
The Farmington Fall Festival , sponsored by the city ’ s Economic Development Committee , is held at Creekside Park . It features a wide range of activities that include pony rides , live music performances , food and merchandise vendors , an art show , games , craft projects , demonstrations and face painting . The Farmington Garden Club hands out free daffodil bulbs for residents to plant .
FreedomFest
Farmington ’ s annual FreedomFest is hosted by Farmington Kiwanis Club and celebrates the July Fourth holiday every year . The festival features free food and drinks supplied by local churches , as well as bouncy houses for the kids , music , raffles and giveaways . And of course , no July Fourth celebration would be complete without an impressive fireworks display .
Back to School Bonanza Every year , Farmington has a Back to School Bonanza for kids from preschool to twelfth grade , and aims to provide various items to students to help prepare them for a successful school year . The event is held at Farmington United Methodist Church and provides for hundreds of students from around the area . The variety of services provided includes free dental screenings , haircuts , shoes and socks , backpacks , and even dinner for the families to take home .

Lincoln

Arkansas Apple Festival
The Arkansas Apple Festival , held in Lincoln in early October since 1976 . The popular event – which features arts and crafts booths , music , a parade , cider , fried pies , dumplings and apple slice samples – will return in 2024 after a one-year hiaitus . ( See the story on page 30 )
Cane Hill Festival
The annual Cane Hill Harvest Festival has something for everyone in the family and features live music , food , arts and crafts , quilt show , tractor show , petting zoo , and historic museum displays . Visitors can also watch presentations about how to make lye soap , molasses and hominy . The festival highlights a way to experience and enjoy the “ lifestyle of yesterday .” Cane Hill also has a music festival the third Saturday of each month .
Chicken Rod Nationals Car Show The annual Chicken Rod Nationals , sponsored by the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce , is not your ordinary car show . The event takes place on Lincoln Square and features an impressive variety of antique vehicles . Antique vehicles are not the only ones on display , however – any and all vehicles are encouraged to participate .
Lincoln Rodeo
The Lincoln Riding Club Rodeo is held annually at the Lincoln Riding Club Arena . Rodeo events for all ages include bull riding , roping events , barrel racing , steer wrestling and bareback bronc riding . Additionally , there is a street dance , rodeo performance and parade that round out the three-day event . Parade participants range from local businesses , schools and churches to groups within the community .
