Prior residents had operated a successful antique store( Grandma’ s House) there for over 30 years, so I was beyond blessed to be its next occupant. The new location offers a larger retail space, big showcase windows and excellent foot traffic since we are located next to The Market on Courthouse Square.”
Timing was also a factor in the move. The whole new appreciation for vintage maximalism, antiques and clutter core plays into the success of shops like Rindercellas that specialize in a mix of old and new items; think antique furniture mixed with vintage items and topped off with modern photography. It’ s everything that one needs to create a classy eclectic vibe.
“ Rindercellas provides something for everyone. Our mission statement of reduce, reuse, recreate, repurpose and reinvent was our initial intention. People will always gravitate back to something known and comfortable,” Martin says.“ We are seeing that Rindercellas can be that and a great deal more. We love the quality and perfection of antique furniture. There is also room to incorporate upcycled furniture pieces with that‘ pop of color.’ I also think Rindercellas has a vintage vibe about her.”
That vintage vibe is apparent the moment you walk into the shop.
A distressed red and white window awning highlights the front shop windows and brings the outside in in a charming gardenesque style and red toile covered cupboards at the entrance of the shop create a whimsical vintage vibe. A plethora of painted furniture, antiques, art and more are currently displayed in the shop.
“ We share our space with some local artisans who offer amazing hand crafted items. I love the idea of filling homes with things that bring us joy or have sentimental value. Antiques have survived for years. We offer oneof-a-kind items that are crafted by a real person not a machine, American made by West Virginian’ s,” she says.
And destination becomes very important. A walk through Hinton is at once nostalgic and modern. Small towns like Hinton across the South have found new life as boutique destinations. Great restaurants, historic lodging, a restored movie theater, clothing boutiques and coffee shops can all be found here. Add to that the influx of park tourism and Hinton
becomes the catalyst for small businesses such as Rindercellas.
“ I think Hinton is quickly becoming a destination,” she sayds.“ I am so excited to have the opportunity to participate in that. We are a store where local artists and craftspeople can sell their wares and also a location where you can completely redress a single room or a complete home. I hope to make the shop a place where people want to gather and talk and where there is a sense of community.
“ At some point I would like to hold classes here, where artists can teach their craft or we can learn and encourage health and wellness. That’ s still in the dreaming phase but I think there is a strong desire for something like this in Hinton.”
Martin says Hinton has a sort of Hallmark feel to it that grabs its guests the moment they arrive.
“ They can take their family to see a movie, grab an oven fired pizza, or get one of the best cups of coffee they will ever find at Otter and Oak. When they step out onto the sidewalks of Hinton they are looking at a beautifully curated town and a great deal of them want to be a part of it. Along with Bluestone State Park, Pipestem State
