Physician Attendee and Vendor at the Healthcare Leadership Summit
Linda S . Nield , MD
At the September 2024 Healthcare Leadership Summit , the joint annual meeting of the West Virginia State Medical Association ( WVSMA ) and the West Virginia Hospital Association , I attended as both a physician attendee and a vendor . In my physician attendee role , I was able to absorb the information from the educational sessions about politics , safety , artificial intelligence , physician wellness , and medical workforce challenges in West Virginia . In my vendor role , I hosted the WVSMA ’ s table in the exhibitor hall . Along with experiencing friendly interactions with medically related business representatives at their exhibitor tables , I was also able to discuss editorial strategies with Kensie Hamilton Fauber , the owner of Executive Ink , LLC and publisher of our West Virginia Medical Journal . It was a joy to spend time with Kensie and her father , Linwood Hamilton . I also enjoyed interacting with other attendees and encouraging them to consider serving as a peer reviewer for our journal . The Publications Committee of the WVSMA is continually in need of individuals who are able to volunteer their time and expertise to the process of peer review . For readers who would like to become a peer reviewer , complete the form at the QR code in this letter .
Our peer review policy is posted on the WVSMA website . The first step in the process does not involve peer reviewers . In this first step , the editorial team will determine if the authors have strictly adhered to the manuscript guidelines . If the guidelines have been followed , the manuscript will move on to the second step . If the authors have not adhered to the guidelines , their manuscript will be desk rejected and no longer considered for publication . The editorial team will send a desk rejection notice to the authors with a non-exhaustive list of the formatting errors in their submission . All authors who receive a desk rejection notice are advised that they are able to fix the formatting errors and submit their work again as a brand-new manuscript . The second , third , and fourth steps of the process are completed by the peer reviewers . References about how to complete an excellent peer review are available for the novice to seasoned reviewer upon request . 1-4
