to two years of age , with longer duration and exclusivity offering greater protection . Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months was associated with a 43 % reduction of having AOM during the first two years of life . 9 The Center of Disease Control and Prevention reports that the percentage of women who exclusively breastfeed through six months is only 25.6 %. 10
CONCLUSION
Our rare case of AOM associated with the development of mastoiditis with post-auricular abscess in a five-week-old boy reminds the clinician to be on alert for these potentially life-threatening complications . Prompt treatment is required to prevent abnormal development of the mastoid air cells and other serious sequelae .
