HOSA included 111 ( 25.5 %) respondents . Of these , only two ( 1.8 %) indicated that this training had positively influenced their decision to become a physician and their practice location . Other types of pipeline programs described by several respondents in free text sections included the Rural Scholars Program , the Health Careers Opportunity Program , Med Step , and the Medical Education Community Orientation Program .
SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING Fellowship
Of the 288 respondents who reported completing one or more fellowships after residency , 23 ( 8.0 %) completed fellowships in WV , 115 ( 39.9 %) completed fellowships out of state , two ( 0.7 %) completed fellowships outside of the U . S ., and 88 ( 51.4 %) respondents provided a year of completion but no location for their fellowship . The years of fellowship completion ranged from 1967 to 2021 with the highest number of respondents graduating in 2016 ( n = 8 ) and median completion year of 2014 . Types of fellowships completed included specialties in addiction medicine , cardiovascular cardiology , chronic pain , hematology , infectious disease , oncology , palliative care , pediatrics , psychiatry , pulmonology , radiology , sleep medicine , and surgery .

Population of Residency Program Location
Of the 31 respondents who reported completing one or more additional degrees or certificates , six completed additional training in WV , 27 completed additional training out of state , and three completed additional training outside of the US . The year of other training completed ranged from 1978 to 2018 with the highest number of respondents completing other trainings in 2003 ( n = 4 ) and median completion years of 2017 and 2018 . Types of training completed included master ’ s degrees in biomedical science , global medicine , psychology , and business administration and certifications in electrophysiology and critical care medicine . No respondents reported completing an additional degree or certificate in public health .
