“ The year 2020 will be remembered by many in West Virginia and throughout our country as one filled with loss , fear , anger , frustration , and unrest . Inequities in health outcomes during the pandemic along racial lines were repeatedly headlined . In order to highlight efforts being employed in the state that strive to decrease health inequities , this special issue of the West Virginia Medical Journal was created with articles concerning the topics of diversity , equity , and inclusion . In the first quarter of a new year , it is time for encouraging news , and the hope is that our readers will be uplifted as they learn about these positive efforts in healthcare .”
