West Virginia leads the nation in school vaccination policies .

• Since 2017 , West Virginia ' s kindergarten immunization rates have been at or above 95 percent , consistently surpassing the national average .
• In 2019 , 31 states had measles cases . The Mountain State did not have a single case . In fact , four states have now modeled their policies after West Virginia ’ s effective childhood vaccination laws .
• In 2022 , two of our border states suffered outbreaks . Ohio had 85 connrmed cases of measles and Virginia was hit with 29 connrmed cases of meningococcal disease . Six people died . Again , the Mountain State did not have a single case .
• West Virginia ’ s immunization laws work . The easiest disease to treat is the one you never get .
