A West Virginia Company.
A Nationwide Impact.
Kevin stood just inside the nursing home entrance next to the visitor sign-in
area with its hand sanitizer pump and box of disposable face masks.
A senior information technology (IT) support specialist for Fairmont-based
Healthcare Management Solutions, LLC (HMS), Kevin normally works behind
the scenes during the survey process, trouble-shooting hardware and
software issues for surveyors while they are in the fi eld inspecting nursing
homes throughout the U.S. and its territories. On this day, however, he was
on-site with a team of HMS medical facility surveyors and was about to
experience the company’s work from a whole new perspective.
“I’ve visited family members in nursing homes and noticed things like the
level of cleanliness or whether the food was appetizing, but seeing a facility
through the eyes of a survey team was really eye-opening,” says Kevin.
“After the fi rst walkthrough, I noticed a few things I wanted to ask the
surveyors about, but that would have to wait until the end of the day. The
surveyors had at least a dozen interviews, observations and record reviews
to get to. They knew exactly what they were looking for. After watching
them in action, I was so proud to play a part in protecting nursing home
residents—one of the country’s most vulnerable populations.”
HMS is a federal and state contractor focused on health care compliance,
quality improvement and resident/patient safety, and a large part of that
work is surveying health care facilities for compliance with federal and
state safety and civil rights regulations.
“Improving lives is the very reason this company was founded in
2002. We combine our health care expertise and knowledge of
federal regulations with information technology to make lives
better, one facility and one resident at a time. I am so proud
of our staff and the important work they do. Everyone—the
residents, the families, the facility staff, and the regulators—
wants what is best for residents and patients. We do, too, and
we’re extremely grateful to play an important role in promoting
resident-centered care.”
