Health-Focused Nonprofits Awarded over $ 1.7 Million in Grants
The Pallottine Foundation of Huntington recently awarded 116 nonprofit organizations in the tri-state with grants totaling more than $ 1.7 million through its 2024 Healthy Communities Initiative . The initiative provides grant funding up to $ 50,000 to programs that address health and wellness challenges in the foundation ’ s region .
“ The projects and programs we fund through Healthy Communities provide for the physical , emotional and spiritual needs of people throughout West Virginia , Kentucky and Ohio ,” says Laura Boone , CEO of the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington . “ The nonprofit organizations that received
these grants are innovative , resilient and dedicated to providing services and resources that will enable people to overcome obstacles and live healthy , happy lives .”
This year ’ s Healthy Communities recipients include food assistance programs , child advocacy centers , mental and behavioral health programs , health departments , family resource and support networks , substance use disorder recovery programs , community centers and shelters for people experiencing domestic violence or homelessness .
Hurley Joins NRGRDA and WV Hive
The New River Gorge Regional Development Authority ( NRGRDA ) and West Virginia Hive announced Leah Hurley as their new grants compliance coordinator . Hurley , a native of Lakewood , Ohio and now residing in Richwood , is a specialist in local , state and federal grant funding and compliance as well as fund development and procurement .
Hurley earned a bachelor ’ s degree in accounting and a master ’ s degree in general management from Tiffin University . Hurley and her husband reside in Nicholas County with their sons and enjoy hiking and the outdoors .
“ Our team is thrilled to add Leah as a highly experienced grants compliance expert who understands the complexities of managing fiscal responsibilities of a public agency ,” says Jina Belcher , executive director of NRGRDA . “ Leah ’ s academic background coupled with her practical experience equips her to navigate the intricacies of grants management and regulatory compliance expected .”
KVC West Virginia Welcomes New President
After a thoughtful selection process , the KVC West Virginia Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Erin Keltner will become president of KVC West Virginia . In addition , current President Brent Lemon will become executive vice president . These two changes pave the way for KVC to make an even greater positive impact in the lives of children and families .
Erin Keltner , LCSW , LICSW , has been with KVC for nearly 20 years and currently serves as vice president of clinical services . In this role , she leads her team to provide the highest quality therapeutic services to children and families . She has held many roles with KVC in both Kentucky and West Virginia , leading the permanency , training , quality assurance and system of care teams ; conducting trainings for partners like the West Virginia Department of Human Services ; and providing clinical supervision to master ’ s level social work staff and students .
“ As a young clinician , I loved meeting with families and helping them to be their best ,” says Keltner . “ I enjoyed getting to know people and working with them to find solutions to their challenges . Over time , I have been able to translate that passion into work with our staff . I ’ m passionate about learning new practice techniques and being able to share them with our staff in a way that meets their needs and grows their knowledge base .”
She is also a Gallup-trained employee engagement champion and a certified Clifton Strengths coach , helping to make KVC an exceptional place to work . Outside of KVC , Keltner has long been an active leader in national groups like the
