When we start each issue of West Virginia Executive ( WVE ), we discuss the potential content that will make up our feature stories . The stories in the magazine you are reading now contain the result , which I believe represents the themes of the issue — development and business services — well . The glue that holds the state ’ s development together is the West Virginia Department of Economic Development ( WVDED ). This team — led by Mitch Carmichael , Mike Graney , Todd Hooker , Stephen Spence , Andy Malinoski , Steve Johnson , Jennifer Ferrell and Kelly Workman — is committed to growing and improving the state ’ s economy . They understand development is an ongoing process that should never stop , and we appreciate their dedication to bringing opportunities and building success in the Mountain State .
If it involves small business , broadband , international exports , business development or community advancement , the WVDED has it covered . You ’ ll learn about the competitive nature of companies choosing where to station their business and how the WVDED aims to attract those new investors in “ Secrets to Site Selection .” See which companies have recently made that decision to invest in the Mountain State in “ An Industrial Revolution .” Also in this issue , you ’ ll read about the power of public-private partnerships when it comes to getting the capital needed to bring a concept to fruition in “ Bringing Projects to Life .” Team work really does make the dream work .
Just as the WVDED does , WVE loves shining a positive light on industries that are thriving in West Virginia . In this issue , we have packaged together a lot of information about the forest products industry . This consists of the
businesses using one of the state ’ s abundant natural resources : wood . From flooring and cabinetry to kitchen utensils and wood pellets , it ’ s all made here . The WVDED assisted in the effort of compiling many of the forest product companies throughout the state on a map that you will find inside this issue .
The WVDED also recently created an advocacy program that allows West Virginians to cheer on this great state . By using # YesWV on social media and sharing its good news , you are advocating for it . Odds are , if you are reading this , you are already cheering on West Virginia . You want our home to prosper and the livelihoods of its people to improve . To me , saying “ yes ” to West Virginia wasn ’ t something that happened once when I chose to live here , but something that continues . As Mountaineers , let ’ s remember to say “ yes ” to West Virginia every day . •
