As the graphic designer for West Virginia Executive ( WVE ), I have never had the opportunity to write to our readers . Over the last three and a half years , I have worked behind the scenes to make each issue come to life .
At the beginning of each quarter , I start with a book of blank pages , and in three months ’ time , it is packed with timely articles about our great state and the people who live here . WVE is not only a publication that I believe in — for me it also represents a team of close friends that I am proud to work with .
Last June , my husband , Brian , and I were fortunate enough to be able to gather our family and friends for our wedding at The Gaines Estate in Fayetteville , WV . We had a wonderful experience at this picturesque venue . We had already made some fun family memories in this small town while attending Fayetteville ’ s Wizard Weekend this past January .
Brian and I flew to Key West , FL , for our honeymoon , where we rented bicycles for the week to make our way
around the island . We enjoyed the atmosphere , delicious food and everything else that Key West has to offer .
One of the highlights of our trip was bumping into the owner and founder of Kermit ’ s Key West Key Lime Shoppe , Kermit Carpenter . In a brief conversation with him , Brian learned that Kermit is from Pennsboro , WV .
Meeting successful entrepreneurs from the Mountain State definitely isn ’ t out of the ordinary in my line of work , but this Mountaineer was a long way from home .
Whether it ’ s by reading a story for WVE , a chance encounter in another state or interactions in my daily life , I am continually reminded why I am proud to be a West Virginian . •
