Girl Scouts Support Health Care Heroes at Boone Memorial Hospital
Health Care Heroes is an annual event where the Girl Scouts of the Black Diamond Council hosts cookie booths near hospitals and other medical facilities to encourage the community to purchase cookies that can then be donated to health care heroes .
“ Giving back to the community is important to Girl Scouts , and Health Care Heroes is a great opportunity for us to show how much these folks mean to us ,” says Beth Casey , CEO of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council .
More than 50 boxes of cookies were donated to Boone Memorial Hospital ( BMH ).
“ We distributed the boxes evenly among departments . Our employees were very appreciative , and we commend the Girl Scouts of the Black Diamond Council for recognizing health care heroes ,” says BMH CEO Virgil Underwood .
Mon Health Medical Center Foundation Awards $ 45,000 in Scholarships
The Mon Health Medical Center Foundation recently awarded $ 45,000 in scholarships to 45 area students pursuing degrees in health care fields for the 2021-2022 school term .
The scholarships are valued at $ 1,000 per year for up to four years . Selection was based on financial need and academic performance . Each applicant also submitted a letter describing why they selected a specific health career . A sub-committee of the foundation ’ s board of directors selected the recipients .
The foundation created the Health Career Scholarship program in 1991 to promote health care careers in fields with projected worker shortages in the Morgantown area . Since the
