Join the Wild & Wonderful Wishes Club
The local community is invited to become a member of the brand new Wild & Wonderful Wishes Club . Throughout 2021 , Make-A-Wish West Virginia is striving to receive $ 1,000 or more in donations from 100 West Virginia businesses and / or individuals to raise $ 100,000 . All funds raised will be used to create life-changing wishes for local children living in West Virginia .
As life begins to return to normal for many , for some kids and families , their sense of normal has been turned upside down by childhood illness . Through the Wild & Wonderful Wishes Club , donors have the power to transform the lives of local wish kids and their families by granting their most heartfelt wish , unlocking much needed hope , health and happiness . standards , which are taught in schools throughout West Virginia . Grant funding will enable the center to produce lesson plans that utilize the primary sources in its archival collections in engaging , inquiry-based learning tools to connect the broader concepts of American government and civic life with a West Virginia and Appalachian regional focus . The grant will also allow it to offer specialized training for teachers to incorporate these resources in their classrooms . Paired with tested learning tools from such highly regarded institutions as the National Archives and Records Administration and iCivics , People Powered will provide a robust resource for West Virginia educators .

Robert C . Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education Receives Major Grant
The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation has awarded the Robert C . Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education a grant of $ 136,250 for a new initiative that will expand civics education in West Virginia . People Powered : Civic Action , Community Engagement and American Representative Democracy will launch in fall 2021 and bring together the center ’ s leadership in teacher training with leading learning resource creators from across the U . S . to deliver innovative educational materials to West Virginia teachers and students .
People Powered is a supplemental year-long curriculum designed to support the 10th-12th grade civics and social studies
