Maintenance Center at Naval Base San Diego, which provides ship maintenance, technical support and training for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. RCBI provides on-site training in Cali- fornia in computer-aided design and 3-D printer operation. Additional training is delivered online. The workers are expect- ed to complete their apprenticeships in less than two years. Meanwhile, RCBI is already training sailors to design for ad- ditive manufacturing and how to operate 3-D printers. RCBI’s Apprenticeship Works launched the nation’s first additive manufacturing technician apprenticeship in fall 2018 with input from partners America Makes, Tooling U-SME and the National Coa- lition of Advanced Technology Centers. Apprenticeship Works is partially sup- ported by an American Apprenticeship Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. Manufacturers in 18 states have partnered with RCBI’s Apprenticeship Works on implementation of registered apprenticeship programs. It may start like this. Professor Dr. Isaac Wait’s presentation described a recent project to characterize rainfall interception by mixed deciduous woods and the resulting effect on the timing and quantity of stormwater runoff during flash floods. He hopes to enable for enhanced accuracy of stormwater flow estimates and improved design of the culverts, channels and bridges that exist to accommodate those flows. Assistant Professor Dr. Sungmin Youn’s presentation highlighted his efforts to develop a low-cost approach to the removal of disinfection by-products from drinking water through filtration utilizing recycled and processed coffee grounds. “I am very proud of the quality of work that has been produced by Dr. Wait and Dr. Youn,” says Dr. Wael Zatar, CITE’s dean. “Their research work on civil and environmental engineering is essential to elevating the excellence of our students.”  … you will need this.
