Introducing the
Lawyers & Leaders
Class of 2019
Lawyers are often misrepresented in
movies and the media. While they are
frequently depicted as fast-talking pro-
fessionals who spend every day trying
cases in front of a judge and jury, these
analytical minds spend more time pour-
ing over casework than litigating in a
courtroom. They are on call virtually 24/7,
and, while most are skilled communica-
tors, they tend to do more reading and
writing than arguing. The practice of law
is multifaceted, complex and defined by
hard deadlines, long hours and detailed
research. For those who find their passion
lies in the study and practice of law, how-
ever, the field is rewarding in regard to
the difference it makes in the lives of others.
In honor of those who have dedicated
their lives to advocating for the rights
of others, West Virginia Executive (WVE)
magazine in partnership with West
Virginia University (WVU) College of Law
recognizes an elite group of remarkable
lawyers who are making strides in their
careers and communities with the Lawyers
& Leaders Awards each year. The passion
and zeal of the Lawyers & Leaders Class
of 2019 is unmatched, which is made
obvious by the achievements and accolades
of its members.
“The WVU College of Law is proud
to continue partnering with West Virginia
Executive magazine on the Lawyers &
Leaders awards program,” says Dean
Gregory Bowman. “The individuals
honored this year have demonstrated
superb leadership, a strong commitment
to service and a deep love of the state of
West Virginia. We are so proud to honor
them and celebrate their wonderful
accomplishments.”
The Lawyers & Leaders honors pro-
gram recognizes lawyers who are either
practicing in West Virginia or graduated
from WVU College of Law. Each recipient
has made some type of positive impact
on their community, either through their
dedication to their legal work, commit-
ment to community service, devotion to
empowering those without a voice or alle-
giance to creating positive social change.
A ceremony honoring the Lawyers &
Leaders Class of 2019 was held at WVU
College of Law in August with the help
of sponsors Frost Brown Todd LLC,
Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, New Law Office
and Thomas, Combs & Spann PLLC.
WVE is proud to introduce the Lawyers
& Leaders Class of 2019.
If you know a lawyer who is making
