Community and Technical College has recently launched a new gas measurement program.
Classes, which began August 20, will prepare students to safely install, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot systems in addition to controlling the flow, level, temperature and pressure of automated industrial processes. In just two years, graduates will be ready for a career in this highly sought field.
“ The future is bright for jobs in the natural gas industry,” says BridgeValley Instructional Specialist Ken Haynes.“ When students graduate from BridgeValley’ s program, the jobs will be there. Our students will have learned all of the skills necessary to dive into this expanding and salary-competitive field.”
In 2016, West Virginia was the ninth-largest natural gas-producing state in the nation with gross withdrawals of almost 1.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and that was just the beginning. According to the Independent Petroleum Association of America’ s Energy in Depth, a research, education and public outreach campaign, more than 100,000 jobs in natural gas and gas liquids will be created in the next few years, and $ 23 billion will be invested in developing 3,200 miles of pipeline in the tri-state area.
Last month,“ North American Midstream Infrastructure through 2035: Significant Development Continues,” a report conducted by ICF on behalf of the INGAA Foundation, stated that the U. S. and Canada will require an investment of more than $ 800 billion between now and 2035 to create oil, natural gas and natural gas liquid midstream infrastructure.
Natural gas infrastructure is expected to receive an investment of $ 417 billion, or an average of $ 23 billion annually through 2034, and makes up over half of the necessary energy infrastructure identified in the report. An investment of approximately $ 321 billion is set to be made in oil infrastructure, and $ 53 billion will be invested in new natural gas liquid infrastructure over the next 18 years.
